In 1995, the Assessment Center within the National Office for Research and Development took part in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) organised by the IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement). Unfortunately, Indonesia was not included in the TIMSS report officially issued at the end of 1996 because of problems associated with sampling design. In 1997, the Assessment Center readministered the TIMSS instruments to Junior Secondary School students in sampled schools.
