In 2004, Education Ministers from around APEC met to initiate cooperation to improve students' "Skills for the Coming Challenges." To successfully participate in the global economy in the 21st Century, educators must improve instruction of English and other foreign languages; stimulate learning in Math and Science; make good use of information technology in education; and implement transparent, effective governance practices.
